It was the perfect bridge between designer fragrance and celebrity scent, a must-have for Christmas and a perfume packed with rock 'n' roll and rebellion, but today comes news that John Galliano's latest release is being pulled from shelves in Canada after the designer was arrested for making anti-Semitic comments. A statement from Canadian department store The Bay (our equivalent to David Jones) said: "When we learned of the charges against Mr. Galliano, we immediately suspended sales of Galliano products."
When we contacted Cosmax, the distributors of the fragrance here in Australia, we were told that the fragrance would not be pulled due to the many people who "have worked extremely hard" to bring the scent to life:
"Morris Profumi, the makers of John Galliano Parlez-moi d’Amour, do not approve of, nor accept, John Galliano’s recent conduct. Parlez-moi d’Amour is a beautiful fragrance that has been crafted by some of the industry’s best perfumers and bottle designers. Many people have worked extremely hard to bring this project to consumers and for this reason we will not be removing it from shelves. We hope that consumers will respond to the beauty that is this product, rather than the recent ugliness associated with John Galliano."
