It's been a long, long time coming but Tom Ford's full foray into the world of colour cosmetics is here. Well in preview for the press anyway - official Australian release dates are still thin on the ground. So why has it taken so long? Well, frankly Ford puts it, there wasn't enough belief in him from the industry. He tells WWD: "My intention was to do color cosmetics out of the gate, but not everyone else was convinced that I had a voice in colour until the lipsticks started selling out again and again." (And winning Prix d’Excellance Award, one presumes.) It's a pretty safe bet that the upcoming eye quads, foundation and nail polish will walk right off the shelf, too. So just what makes them so popular? Well in part it's the luxe effect. Owning something Tom Ford and still being able to pay your rent or mortgage payments is a win-win. But it's also the practical approach that Ford applies to his aesthetic, be it clothes or cosmetics: "I don’t like B.S. and a lot of promises, and there are a lot of products out there you don’t even need." Hence the range is concise, but unbelieveably thought out, because Ford is nothing if not a perfectionist. And if you thought you were a makeup fiend, then you clearly haven't met Mr. Ford, he who talks of facial symmetry and structure. We can't wait for the ads, which will feature the man himself.
